Playgrounds FAQ

What are LabEx Playgrounds?

LabEx Playgrounds are browser-based workspaces for exploring operating systems, developer tools, and databases. They come from the real lab environments used throughout LabEx learning content.

What features do LabEx Playgrounds offer?

Signed-in playgrounds provide real environments with complete command sets, entirely in your browser with no local installation. Accompanying practice labs, automatic checks of your work, and AI assistance help you get started and build practical skills.

Can I use the playgrounds for free?

Yes. Sign in to launch free LabEx learning environments. Most pages also offer a limited guest terminal preview; Kali Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and Jenkins require sign-in to run commands.

Do I need to install any software?

No. Open a playground in a modern browser. There is no need to install a terminal, virtual machine, database server, or development tool on your computer.

Which Linux distributions can I explore?

Explore Linux and Ubuntu, CentOS, Fedora, RHEL, Arch Linux, Debian, and Kali Linux. More operating system versions are continuously being added.

Which tools and technologies can I practice online?

Practice Shell, Bash, Zsh, Git, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, and Python. Explore Kali, Wireshark, and Nmap for security; MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and Redis for databases; Pandas and NumPy for data science.

Are these real Linux environments?

Yes. LabEx provides real, complete playground environments for signed-in users. Guest previews support a limited set of commands. Sign in to experience the full environment and its tools.
