# Supabase Database

> Every Supabase project is a dedicated Postgres database, trusted by millions of developers. Use it on its own, or with the rest of the Supabase platform.

Supabase Database gives you a full Postgres database with no compromises. It is not a Postgres-compatible alternative or a shared cluster: every project gets its own dedicated Postgres instance that you can connect to directly with any Postgres client.

## Use it as a standalone database

You do not need any other Supabase product to use the database. Auth, Storage, Realtime, and Edge Functions are included in every project but optional. Unused products cost nothing.

- **Connect with anything**: standard Postgres connection string. Works with psql, Prisma, Drizzle, or any Postgres client or ORM.
- **Connection pooling**: Supavisor, with session and transaction modes.
- **Pricing**: the Free plan includes a 500 MB database. The Pro plan starts at $25/month and includes one Micro compute instance and 8 GB of disk. Current pricing: https://supabase.com/pricing.md
- **Pausing**: Free plan projects pause after 7 days of low activity. Paid plan projects do not pause.
